DfT invites bids for East Coast franchise
The companies that have passed the pre-qualification evaluation can now develop their plans for the franchise
East Coast Trains Ltd. (First Group)
Keolis / Eurostar East Coast Ltd.
Inter City Railways Ltd. (Stagecoach Holdings and Virgin Holdings)
Virgin Trains to manage further West Coast Main Line franchise extension
Following the award of a 23 months management contract after which the West Coast Main Line would be let under a long-term franchise, due to expire on 09 November 2014, the DfT has confirmed a revised contract due to expire in April 2017
This is to allow the current East Coast Main Line franchise to be awarded, followed by the West Coast Main Line franchise
This allows Virgin Rail Group to remain operating a franchise throughout

DfT invites bids for Northern franchise

DfT invites bids for TransPennine Express franchise
The companies that have passed the pre-qualification evaluation can now develop their plans for the franchise
First TransPennine Express Ltd.

Stagecoach Trans Pennine Express Trains Ltd.
DfT awards East Coast franchise to InterCity Railways
The consortium of Stagecoach and Virgin has been awarded the new East Coast franchise
The 8 year franchise will include :
A complete refurbishment of existing rolling stock
65 new trains from 2018 with improved on-board WiFi and catering
Reduction in travel times to Leeds and Edinburgh, from 2018

There also plans for new services between London and Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Huddersfield

In 2020 all 65 new trains will replace the existing 39 trains

InterCity Railways has pledged to reduce the Standard Anytime fare by 10%

The new franchise commences on Sunday 01 March 2015
Virgin Trains launches BEAM
Virgin Trains has launched its new on-board entertainment service
BEAM gives access to movies and TV programs, as well as magazines and games  

Currently installed on all Pendolino services and being rolled out on all other West Coast trains
It will also be rolled out on Virgin Trains East Coast soon
